Senior Building Surveyor – Client Side

We are currently looking for a talented Building Surveyor with experience in Project Management, Contract admin, professional services, PPM and reactive maintenance across Marston Properties residential and workspace property portfolio.

Overview

We have been building and refurbishing homes for private sale or rent since the 1930’s, and more recently the we were shortlisted for the prestigious RIBA Stirling Prize 2023 for our new build housing project in Clapham.


We own and manage over 300 properties and ensure our characterful properties are refurbished to a high standard. We are very focused on maintaining our reputation – particularly among residents, occupiers, partners, and stakeholders.

The team

The Building and Maintenance team are responsible for the delivery of development and refurbishment projects, reactive maintenance & repair works and planned cyclical repair projects. The team also provide support and advice on building defects, sustainability of assets and fire insurance reinstatement valuations.

Reporting to the Head of Construction & Maintenance, the successful candidate will provide in-house Building Surveying, Project Management, CDM and Design support to the residential and commercial asset Management property management teams.

Responsibilities

  • Planned Preventative Repairs & Maintenance
  • Improvement Works
  • Repairs
  • CDM, Quality Assurance and Contract Compliance
  • Project Management, planning, tender, construction, and handover of schemes valued from £30,000 to £900,000

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the construction of traditional and modern buildings
  • Working knowledge of current CDM Regulations and H&S Legislation
  • Experienced in diagnosing common defects in buildings
  • Experienced in managing building and maintenance projects, contractors, schedules of condition and programmes of work
  • Ability to work to deadlines or time frames without compromising the quality of work and maintaining a high level of attention to detail
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of building compliance
  • Demonstrate a good knowledge of sustainability issues within the built environment

Desirable

  • MRICS or MCIOB desirable but not essential if qualified by experience
  • or Construction, Design or Real Estate related degree
  • Knowledge of common building services (mechanical and electrical)
