Marking the start of the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race, Putney is a charming London suburb just 20 minutes from Waterloo station. The picturesque river embankment has a real community feel on the weekends, with the bustling rowing club, dog walkers, and the local farmer’s market. As well as the river embankment Putney has plenty of green space, from Wandsworth Park, The Wetland centre, Putney Heath, and Richmond Park just a stone’s throw away.
Putney High Street covers all the well-known shops and food outlets including a large Sainsburys, as well as The Exchange Shopping Centre which has a Waitrose, H&M and gym facilities. International cuisine is well covered, with the French restaurant Gazette Putney, Ma Goa has been serving traditional Southern Indian dishes for 26 years, and Yum Sa Thai. Putney is also well served for coffee shops, including Artisan Coffee on Upper Richmond Road and popular brunch hangout Ground on Lower Richmond Road.
Putney mainline station runs to Clapham Junction and Waterloo, while both East Putney and, across the river, Putney Bridge, are on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line. With main bus routes as well as the Thames Clipper boat from Putney Bridge which takes you all the way to The Tower of London.
