Marking the start of the Boat Race, Putney is home to some lovely riverside pubs, including The Duke’s Head and The Boathouse. There’s also The Half Moon on Lower Richmond Road, a renowned live music venue. International cuisine is well covered, with Italian at Enoteca Turi, fresh sushi at Sushi54 and Spanish tapas at Alquimia on Brewhouse Lane, not to mention Brazilian slow-roast grill, Rodizio Preto, on the high street.
A French food market is held during the last weekend of each month, and Putney is also well served for coffee shops, including Artisan Coffee on Upper Richmond Road and popular brunch hangout Grind on Lower Richmond Road.
High-end chains and boutiques line Putney High Street, while The Exchange Shopping Centre has a Waitrose as well as a Gap, Monsoon and Next. There is also a large Sainsburys and Marks & Spencer Food. Entertainment is provided by the Odeon Cinema on the High Street and the community theatre, Putney Arts Theatre.
The area is surrounded by green spaces both large and small, including Putney Heath, Richmond Park and Wimbledon Common and has a number of local golf and cricket clubs.
Putney mainline station runs to Clapham Junction and Waterloo, while both East Putney and, across the river, Putney Bridge, are on the Wimbledon branch of the District Line.
